Abstract (EN)

Nowadays, with the continuous increase in the need for energy sources, efforts to reduce loss and leakage rates in electrical power transmission and distribution lines are becoming increasingly important. In this thesis, which provides important contributions in reducing technical losses in electrical energy transmission and distribution systems, some experimental applications have been performed for various electrode materials (stainless steel, bronze and aluminum) and different electrode combinations (Plane-Plane, Needle-Plane and Needle-Needle), which are important factors determining the ignition and damping voltage values of corona discharges. In the scope of the study, corona discharge is formed in different combinations of specially designed electrodes of various shapes and under atmospheric pressure conditions; the ignition and damping voltages of the discharge were measured depending on the gap between the electrodes. These processes were also investigated in different electrode materials to investigate the effects of electrode material on the ignition and damping voltages of discharge. According to the results, electrode material (structure and stability) and electrode configuration have a significant effect on the ignition and damping voltages of discharge; it has been found that as the stability of the material and the homogeneity of the electric field between the electrodes increase, the ignition of the discharge becomes more difficult.
