Analysis in terms of producer of environmentally based agricultural land protection (Çatak) program: the case of İzmir province

Natural resources are being damaged and depleted due to their extreme usage in agricultural production. . The damage caused by industrial system can be renovated only by transition to a production system which makes waste-free usage of natural resources and takes environment, ecological başance and protection of nature into consideration.. Agricultural policies should be prepared from a broader perspective which takes the balance of ecosystem and cognizance of environment into consideration ÇATAK program is one of the agricultural policies that has been arranged by taking cognizance of environment into consideration in Turkey. The aim of this study is to determine the producers' satisfaction level and the factors that influence the success of implementations from the viewpoint of producers and to put forward the producer preferences for similar policies to be implemented in the future. For this purpose, a face to face survey has been carried out with 92 producers participating in ÇATAK program in five distiricts of İzmir provience. New Ecological Paradigm, Best-Worst Analysis, Analytic Hierarchy Process and Ordered Logit Model methodologies are used in analyzing the data. Research findings indicate that producers adapted environment friendly production techniques with ÇATAK program. Producers evaluated ÇATAK program as absoulety successful (4.78) and indicated that they definetly would like to continiue the program (4.90). The results of the Ordered Logit Model indicate that the satisfaction level of younger and environmentally resposible producers farming in their own land and living in a nuclear family is higher their counterparts.
