The impact of competitive strategies and supply chain strategies on business performance under the environmental uncertainty: IMKB (ise) manufacturing sector application

Companies have goals such as achieving more and more profitability and growth. In order to achieve these goals, today companies have to compete with their domestic and global competitors as well as they need to revise the existing structures according to the changing and evolving conditions. In order to survive the competition they have to continue their long-term competitiveness and use all the resources effectively. This situation requires the firms to identify a competitive position as well as to identify and use an appropriate strategy. The firms also have to adopt appropriate supply chain strategies for the efficient use of resources and cooperation and communication with the companies they work.This study, examines the relationship between supply chain strategies and competitive strategies. The effect on the financial performance of firms ISE used for the relationship between supply and competitive strategies. It is also measured if environmental uncertainty affects supply chain strategies, competitive strategies and performance of firms. A questionnaire is used for the measurement. The questionnaire was prepared and applied in another country and provided reliability and validity for use. Pilot questionnaires are applied in 12 operating carpet industry companies. The survey data were analyzed using SPSS 20.0 package program. As the adequate reliability value is provided, the second pilot questionnaire is applied in 16 firms those are linked to IMKB (Istanbul Stock Exchange - ISE) manufacturing industry and the reliability of the scale is found to be 0,856.The main application is applied in 174 firms of IMKB manufacturing industry and of them 90 valid questionnaires obtained and analyzed. By subjecting the main application to the factor analysis the factors are identified and then the reliability of each factor is calculated. Items with a low factor load are removed from the analysis. Then, structural equation model is used to test the hypotheses of the research. AMOS 20.0 software package is used for this. The accuracy of the established model was determined by testing the model with structural equation model.As a result of the analysis, competitive strategies are found to have positive and meaningful effect on supply chain strategies. The results also show that when the environmental uncertainty is high; the use of cost leadership strategy and lean supply chain strategy has a greater effect than the others have. Also, when the environmental uncertainty is low; there is more meaningful relations between the strategies of lean supply, agile supply and differentiation strategies. In addition to these results, simple supply chain strategies in high uncertainty and agile supply chain strategies in low uncertainty situations were found to announce the performance of the firms both in a more positive direction and higher rate.Regarding these results, the firms are advised to use cost leadership strategy and lean supply chain strategy in the situations of high (volatile) uncertainty whereas use differentiation and agile supply chain strategies in the situations of low (stable) uncertainty.Keywords: Supply Chain Management, Financial Performance, Structural Equation Model, AMOS, Competitive Strategies, Supply Chain Strategies, Business Performance, IMKB.
