Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to examine the effect of the dual-focus teaching model on the mathematical literacy of 5th grade students and the student experiences during the application process of the course module planned according to the dual-focus teaching model. Research; The study was carried out with a mixed research approach in which qualitative and quantitative methods were used together. Working group; A total of 33 5th grade students were enrolled in the 2020-2021 academic year. In the study, the experimental group was given 5 lesson hours each week, 80 lesson hours for 16 weeks in total, with the dual focus teaching model, and measurements were made on mathematical literacy, valuing mathematics, their motivation towards mathematics and their thoughts about the education given. In the study, data were collected with "Mathematics Literacy Achievement Test", student diaries, valuing mathematics and mathematics motivation scales. Considering the findings of the study, although the mathematics literacy success level of the students did not increase significantly with the mathematical literacy education, the students' thoughts towards education were positive. Along with the education given to the students, it has been observed that there may not be a single truth in mathematics, that by creating different assumptions over time in solving problems, their multi-dimensional thinking abilities have improved, as well as that mathematics is a more enjoyable and feasible course, as well as affective changes.
