Abstract (EN)

The Design and Mechanical Analysis of Double Zigzag Type Adhesive Joints The subject of thesis, adhesive bonded joints with composite materials used in aviation, aerospace and automotive industry is to investigate the mechanical properties with numerical and experimental methods. A bonding joint with double zigzag type geometry is used in study. The bonding geometry has four types of overlap angles 30°, 45°, 60°, 75° respectively. Composite materials which made of glass fiber prepregs have used in this adhesive bonding joints. These materials by using prepreg (pre-impregnated) have three different orientation angles ([0°/90°], [±45°], [0°/90°/±45°]) and various adherend thicknesses (3 mm, 5 mm, 7 mm) produced. Ductile and brittle type adhesives are used for the bonding process. Experimental and numerical studies of the overlap angle, angle of fiber orientation, depending on variation of thickness of the material and type of adhesive failure load on the mechanical behaviors are investigated. Von-Mises yield criterion is used for adhesive layer and adherends in the calculation of the equivalent stresses. The results of experimental and numerical analysis of the double zigzag type adhesive joint has showed that the variation of mechanical behaviors to vary depending on the geometric parameters, angle of fiber orientation and type of adhesive. The overlap angles have been observed that the most important geometrical parameters for failure behavior. In addition that fiber orientation angle of the composite materials is found to significantly affect the tensile stress. Key Words: Composite Material, Adhesive Bonding Joints, Mechanical Properties, 3-D Stress Analysis, Joint Strength
