Abstract (EN)

According to legend, Vakvak Island has an extraordinary tree with the same name. This legend of Arab origin was told among societies and passed down from generation to generation, and additions were made in each period during this transition process. In the development of the legend, narratives that fueled humanity's curiosity and motivated travelers and sailors to travel; It has gained guidance in terms of art history and various branches of science. The subject of the studies on the birth of waqwak, with varying expressions of Arab and European sources, has been tried to be revealed in terms of the works and sources obtained. As Vakvak gained popularity in certain periods, his style was accepted in the works produced at that time. The decoration of waqwak, which is used in many artistic fields, especially on tile surfaces, has been examined. In this way, the reflection of the interaction of the waqwak style with different cultures on the works was observed, and the effects of Turkish culture on the style were tried to be determined. In line with the research and examinations, the waqwaq style was transferred to the new tile design applications carried out within the thesis study.
