Abstract (EN)

In this study, five new Schiff bases were synthesized by the reactions of 3-methoxy-5-nitrosalicylaldehyde, 3-methoxy-5-bromosalicylaldehyde, 3-bromo-5-chlorosalicylaldehyde and 3, 5-dichlorosalicylaldehyde known as aromatic aldehydes with paraphenilendiamine. Using these ligands, 20 different complexes of Co+2, Ni+2, Cu+2 and Zn+2 in acetate forms were synthesized in pure EtOH. Throughout the synthesis, reactions were checked out by Thin Layer Chromatography and FTIR. The structures of ligands and complexes obtained were identified using Elemental Analysis, FTIR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, UV-VIS, Magnetic Susceptibility and Thermogravimetric Analysis as techniques. It was investigated that the ratios of Metal/Ligand in all complexes were 1:2 and all of the Schiff bases reacted as bidentate ligands using their imino nitrogen and carboxyl oxygen atoms. Keywords: Schiff bases, transition metal, N2O2 type complexes.
