Abstract (EN)
In the early years of life, children face many health problems and they are directly affected by their parents' health belief and attitudes, including their healthy growth, appropriate nutrition, learning and psychosocial development. Studies on the duration of admission to the emergency department in our country are limited. In this study, it was aimed to determine the duration of admission to the emergency department, the factors causing delay and parent health belief scale. The data were collected using "Parental Health Belief Scale" with "Socio-demographic data form". The convenience sample of the study recruited in children who aged 0-18 years and hospitalized in the emergency department of the Pediatric Hospital of Erciyes University Medical Faculty Fevzi MERCAN-Mustafa ERASLAN Children's Hospital. A total of 400 parents were included in the study, and evaluated on 299 mothers because the parental attitude scale was used on mothers. Percentage, t-test, chi-square, ANOVA, Pearson correlation, Cronbach α, Kurtosis and skewness coefficients were used in the evaluation of the data. As a result of the analysis; 74.8% (n = 299) of the interviewees were mothers. 43.8% (n = 175) of the mothers were between the ages of 26-34, 57.6% of the fathers (n = 228) were over 35 years of age. 29.2% (n = 111) of the mothers were primary school graduates and 31.8% (n: 135) of the fathers were high school graduates. 51.0% (n = 204) of the children were male and 44.3% (n = 177) were between 1-6 years of age. The children included in the study had a mean X̄=1.64±1.27 siblings, the patient was the second or third child. The time between the symptoms of the disease and admission to the emergency room ranged from a minimum of 6 minutes to 720 hours and the mean duration was determined X̄=25.78±67.34 hours. 29.6% (n = 32) of the parents who thought they were late for the emergency department and they came late because of their previous experience. Child patient was hospitalized to the emergency department with 24.3% (n = 96) convulsions. The economic situation of the families who admitted to emergecy care sercices are 51.3% (n = 205) equal to the income and expenditure. The mean score of the internality factors was X̄ = 27.27 ± 6.36, the mean of the powerfull others was X̄ = 31.99 ± 7.70 and the mean of chance factors was X̄ = 12.14 ± 5.19. According to this, it can be thought that the internal and external controls of the mothers are above the middle and the health of the child does not leave them to chance. İnternatily factor score was found maternal age of 26-34 mothers to be higher than the mothers aged 35 and over. Accordingly, it can be said that mothers over the age of 35 need to develop health literacy. Similarly, it was observed that literate mothers were more externally controlled than mothers at other educational levels. It can be suggested that mothers who are over 35 years old and literate can be given training and counseling on the internal causes of diseases.
