Abstract (EN)

This study aims to find out whether metaphors are culture specific and the typesof reading strategies students use while reading texts, also whether there is one-to-one correspondence between the meaning of metaphors assigned by languages.Chapter 1 presents the background to the study, problem, aim of the study, themethod and the assumptions of the study.Chapter 2 presents the review of literature which consists three parts.The first part presents reading comprehension.The second part presents everything about metaphor.The fird part presents what culture is and shows how culture and metaphors areconnected.In chapter 3, the methodology that the present study makes use of is explainedwith reference to the subjects that participated in the study, the instruments used, andhow data are collected.Chapter 4 includes the analysis and the interpretation of data collected from thestudents.Chapter 5, which is the conclusion part of this study, summarizes the study,further highlights the importance of metaphor in reading and discusses the importanceof metaphor understanding and interpretations for foreign language teaching.
