Coğrafya öğretiminde gösteri yöntemi kullanılarak harita ve küre kullanım becerilerinin geliştirilmesi

ÖZETBu çalışmanın amacı; gösteri yönteminin coğrafya eğitimine uygunluğunu ve katkıyapıp yapmayacağını belirlemektir. Özelikle, gösteri yönteminin coğrafya eğitiminde üstdüzey bilişsel becerilerin kazandırılmasında etkili biçimde kullanılabilirliğini ortayakoymaktır. Bu amaçla tezde gösteri yöntemine ilişkin kuramsal bilgiler sunulmaktadır. Haritave küre kullanım becerileri konusunda Türkiye'de yapılan ilk araştırma olması nedeniyle, bubecerilerinin neler olduğu, kullanımında hangi teknik ve yöntemlerden yararlanılabileceğiyönünde bilgiler sunulmuştur. Araştırmada, harita ve küre kullanım becerilerinin her sınıf vedüzeyde aşamalı olarak nasıl öğretilebileceğini ortaya koymak amacıyla, bu becerilerininçeşitli sınıf düzeylerinde hiyerarşisi ortaya konmuştur.Araştırma, deneysel bir çalışma olup, ön test-son test kontrol gruplu desenkullanılmıştır. Araştırma, 2002-2003 eğitim-öğretim yılı birinci döneminde Ankara'dakiCumhuriyet ve Ayrancı liselerinde öğrenim gören, 9.sınıftaki toplam dört şubedeyürütülmüştür. Öğrencilerin özellikleri açısından, her iki grubunda denk olduğu çalışmaya,deney ve kontrol gruplarından toplam 140 öğrenci katılmıştır. Çalışmada, deney grubunda,gösteri yöntemine dayalı bir yaklaşım izlenirken, kontrol grubunda geleneksel yaklaşımkullanılmıştır. İşlenen dersler sonunda her iki gruba da konuyla ilgili otuz maddeden oluşanbaşarı testi uygulanmıştır. Araştırma, ön test ve son testlerin uygulanma süreleri ile birliktetoplam yedi hafta sürmüştür.Araştırma hipotezlerini test etmek için, veri toplama aracından elde edilen nicelikselveriler kullanılmıştır ve SPSS istatistik programında yer alan bağımlı ve bağımsız gruplar içint testi, frekans ve yüzde analizleri kullanılarak değerlendirilmiştir.Yapılan analizler sonucunda; gösteri yönteminin uygulandığı deney grubuöğrencilerinin harita ve küre kullanım becerilerinin;a) Bilgi düzeyleri açısından anlamlı bir artış sağladığı,b) Kavrama düzeyleri açısından anlamlı bir artış sağlamadığı,c) Uygulama-Üstü düzeyleri açısından anlamlı bir artış sağladığı sonuçlarına ulaşılmıştır.ABSTRACTTHE DEVELOPMENT OF MAP AND GLOBE SKILLS BY THE USE OFDEMONSTRATION METHOD IN GEOGRAPHY EDUCATIONThe aim of this study is to determine the suitability and contributions of thedemonstration method in geography education and especially to determine the affectivity ofthe method in obtaining the upper level cognitive skills in geography education. With thisaim, theoretical information about the demonstration method has been presented in this thesis.As this study is the first in its field of map and globe skills in Turkey, information about whatthese skills are and which technical methods we can benefit from while using these skills havealso been presented in this thesis. In the research, a hierarchy of the map and globe skills invarious levels has been presented with the aim of demonstrating how these skills can bethought step by step in every class and level.As this research is an experimental study, a pattern of pretest-posttest has been usedwith control groups. This study has been conducted among, in total, four 9th grade classes inCumhuriyet and Ayrancı High Schools in Ankara, during the first semester of 2002-2003educational year. 140 students have participated from the two equal groups, which are oneexperimental group and one control group. In the study an approach based on thedemonstration method has been used while a traditional approach has been used in the controlgroup. After the progression of the lessons, an achievement test consisting of thirty statementshas been applied to both groups. This study has lasted seven weeks together with theapplication process of the pre and posttests.To test the hypothesis of this research, the quantitative data collected through datacollection tools has been used. Quantitive data have been analyzed by the use of the t test,frequency, and percentage analysis for the dependent and independent groups in the SPSSstatistics software.At the end of the analyses; the following results of the demonstration methods used formap and globe skills on the experimental groups have been shown:a) A significant increase in the knowledge level has been achievedb) A significant increase in the comprehension level has not been achievedc) A significant increase in the application level and its higher levels has been achieved.
