ABSTRACT Ph.D. Thesis INVESTIGATION OF MULTI-COMPONENT POLYMERS AND ITS MELTS BY USING NEUTRON AND X-RAY SCATTERING O?UZ ERTU?RUL Anadolu University Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences Physics Program Supervisor: Assoc. Prof.Mehmet TOMBAKO?LU Second Supervisor: Prof. Kudret ÖZDAŞ 2003, 77 pages In this thesis, multi-component polymers and its melts are considered. Statistical properties and parameters that determine the configuration of polymers and their dynamical properties are investigated. These parameters are developed on the basis of Gaussian distribution and RPA. The consistency of the model was then determined by comparing its predictions with the experimental results. It is shown that the predictions and the ability of the model for di-block copolymers and binary mixture of two different homopolymers are in perfect harmony with the experimental data. Micro phase transition for the di-block copolymers and the effect of both temperature and polydispersity on this phenomena were demonstrated. Additionally, macro phase transition and radii of gyration of each components for the binary mixture of two different homopolymers were determined and the effect of temperature on these was shown. The dependence of the statistical parameters on the configuration of polymers and the external parameters was also demonstrated. Therefore, we are able to describe the system of being different equilibrium states with one single model. Keywords: Polymer, Neutron Scattering, Phase Transition, Form Factor, RPA
