Abstract (EN)
Turkey has had the most comprehensive and modern seismic code with the promulgation of TBSC-2018 in 18 March 2018. Although TBSC-2018 has adopted similar principles and procedures as its predecessor, TSC-2007, it has evolved into a very different position, both with the topics it covers and with its structure suitable for the demands of the era. In order to tangibly address the differences between both seismic codes in terms of concrete buildings, the analysis and design of a multi-storey reinforced concrete building in residential type has been carried out comparatively in accordance with TSC-2007 and TBSC-2018 seismic codes. In this study, not only the seismic codes, but also Turkish Standards such as TS-500, TS-498 and TS-ISO 9194 were used. This study consists of 5 chapters where introduction part constitutes the first chapter, explanation of earthquake fact and evolution of seismic codes in Turkey part constitutes the second chapter, comparison and examination of mentioned seismic codes part constitutes the third chapter, numerical application of sample building part constitutes the fourth chapter and assessment of the outputs of numerical applications part constitutes the last chapter. The building has 15 floors with a height of 3 meters each and a total floor area of 1050 m2. The building has reinforced concrete structural frame with shear walls and conventional solid slabs. For the building, the concrete class has been selected as C35/45 and steel grade has been seleceted as S420. The bearing element sizes in the building have been kept constant throughout the floors. It is assumed that the building will be built in Bursa in the coordinates of 40.185071/29.104772. The local site class of the ground on which the building will be is chosen as Z2 for TSC-2007 and ZB for TBSC-2018. While the location of the building is considered to be the 1st degree seismic zone for TSC-2007, the necessary parameters for TBSC-2018 were accessed via the AFAD's TEHM-2018 interactive website. In the numerical application, the force based approach was followed and the linear earthquake load calculation methods such as ESLM and MCM were used. As the design earthquake, the standard earthquake ground motion, which has a 10% probability to be exceedance in 50 years for both regulations, has been taken into consideration. The establishment of the three-dimensional model of the building and the structural analysis process was carried out with the SAP2000 computer software. While the structural irregularity checks of the building are carried out using ESLM, final designs of members, control of maksimum relative storey drifts and control of second-order effects were carried out by using MCM. As a result of the evaluation made at the end of this study, it was concluded that the earthquake effect in TBSC-2018 was handled more realistically than TSC-2007. Especially in TBSC-2018, using the effective cross-section stiffness, changing the design response spectrum, determining the spectral accelerations according to the geographical coordinates, taking into account the vertical earthquake load, using the overstrength factor and the renewal of the local site classes are the most important factors affecting this situation.
