Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACT Gene frequencies of Haptoglobin in the Çukurova Region Forensic Serology is the scientific field aimed at the identification and individualization of biological fluids and tissues and the stains. In the present, erythrocyte antigens, the genetic controlled polymorphic enzymes and human leucocyte antigens (HLA) and DNA analyses are used for these purposes. Human Hp is a plasma glycoprotein composed of two types of polypeptide chains, a and 0, that are covalently associated by disulfide bonds. The genes controlling the a and p chains are located on chromosome 16q22. It is synthesized in the liver and it bounds the free hemoglobin in the plasma. In the human populations there are three genetic Hp phenotypes: Hp 1-1, Hp2-1, Hp 2-2. Hp belongs to the acute phase glycoproteins, thus its serum level is markedly increased in malignancy, infections and trauma. Hp is important in forensic sciences while it shows polymorphism, its phenotypes are easily distinguished and it is stable on blood stains for a prolonged period of time. So Hp is extensively used in forensic analyses, paternity tests and population studies. The distribution of the Hp phenotypes has been investigated on 100 healthy blood donors living in the Çukurova Region, by the starch gel electrophoresis. The Hp phenotypes were found as follows; Hp1-1 in 11, Hp2-1 in 36 and Hp2-2 in 53 of the samples. The gene frequencies were calculated as; Hp*1= 0.29 and Hp*2= 0.71. The results shows in accordance with the Hardy Weinberg Equilibrium. Key Words: Forensic Serology, Haptoglobin, Starch Gel Electrophoresis. *BX. YÜMSIKÖ?RETİM KUMJIB ix
