Abstract (EN)
?Tesisler? (Charitable Foundations) were social and legal institutions established between 1926-1967 in the Republic of Turkey. When the Turkish Civil Code was adopted in 1926, the term ?tesis? entered the law. Foundation was called as "tesis" until Code 903 was accepted in 1967. During this 41-year period 202 units ?tesis? (foundation) were founded. The number of established foundations in this period was lower than during the time of Ottoman Empire due to various reasons. One of reasons was that the term "tesis" was used instead of "foundation" by law. Also, the people hesitated to set up new foundations because previously established foundations had been liquidated in this period. Additionally the state had just exited from war.?Tesisler? were established by the "Foundation Monument" which was similar to Deed of Trust during the Ottoman State. This monument includes Foundation?s Founder, witnesses, their notary's name, their surname and their signature, type of devoted goods, quantity of money, goals of foundation and revenue of foundation. They were first approved by notaries and then by the court to make them official.?Tesisler" were established by Official indenture or last will (testament). Their management methods were separated into two: recorded and annexation. Most of foundations were established for Religious purpose. The purpose of education, health and social ?Tesisler? were available. Some of ?Tesisler? were established by the minorities.Key Words:1. Tesis2. Foundation3. Waqf4. Turkish Republic5.
