Reading the modernization of the Republic on Afyon city Station Avenue

The Republic of Turkey entered a modernization process targeting Anatolian cities by creating the spatial traces of the goals it wanted to achieve in its early years. With this study, it has been tried to find an answer to the question of how the modernization of the Republic was in Afyon, especially in the Anatolian cities reached by the railway. This study consists of 4 parts. Study; It includes a section on purpose-scope-method, a section on the traces of the Republican Ideology in cities, a section on Afyon and its modernization policies, and finally a section on Station Street. This study starts with purpose, scope and method contents. The questions why this study was carried out and which ways were followed were answered. It continued with the explanation of the Republic Period Turkey and the physical traces of the Republican ideology in the cities. The spatial equivalents of the mentality of the period were conveyed through the cities of Turkey, especially the city of Ankara. Open and closed areas, which are the equivalent of the thinking of the republic, are explained with examples. After the representation of the Republican thought, the city of Afyon and the traces of the Republic's Modernization Policies in Afyon are explained. The development of the city of Afyon from the first settlement to the Republican period has been tried to be conveyed through maps and visuals. The development of the Republican period has also been tried to be explained through maps and plans. In the last part, that is, in the main part of the thesis, Afyon of the Republic Period is explained on the scale of Station Street. With the buildings on the street, the mentality of the period was tried to be conveyed.
