Abstract (EN)
According to the Turkish Language Association; status means individuals within an organization or a society. Sociologists, primarily among the factors determining the status; lineage refers to wealth, functionality, education, religion and biological structure. Interpreting society with a critical perspective, the artist has made articulate questions about the methods by which members of society have had that status and how the status is shared among the members of society. The critical attitude of the artist towards the status system was ironic, angry, lyrical, melancholy, and challenging. European art of painting is first seen in the direction of the church. Later, in the Renaissance, it is seen that the bourgeoisie has a desire to have art and a desire to acquire a reputation. During these periods, an art environment, shaped by high status holders, attracts attention. The establishment of the Sanayi-i Nefise Mektebi with the westernization movement in the Ottoman Empire is seen as the first movements of the contemporary arts in the Ottoman Empire. Republican revolutions are considered as a milestone for Turkish art history. In the first years of the Republic, Atatürk, along with the culture and art policies developed by the state, gave both support and importance to art. Thus, the Republic has provided a significant reputation and status for both Turkish society and its artists. After 1950's, the state's support for art seems to be decreasing. On the other hand, it is seen that the tendencies towards individual styles started in the field of art. Interest in industrialization and urbanization problems is increasing. While the influence of art and thought flows from the outside is seen on the one hand, Universality and Nationality discussions are getting importance. Thus, the reflection of the differences between individual style and social status began to be seen in the works. It has been examined how the reflections of social status have been handled and reflected by the artists. These reflections are seen in the works of many artists. However, it is more clear-cut in the works of some artists. From this point, Nuri İyem, Cihat Burak, Neşe Erdok, Hakan Gürsoytrak and Ali Elmacı's paintings were examined more closely.
