Evaluation of consumption and saving tendencies in terms of behavioral economics: Denizli̇ province textile industry company example

The phenomenon of saving and consumption has had a great importance in the economy from past to present and various studies have been carried out on it. Economics aims to explain how people can meet their infinite needs and desires with limited resources. The fact that individuals are in constant consumption from birth to death means that their endless needs are realized through the consumption of goods and services. In the studies carried out so far, many models regarding the savings function have been established and analyzes have been carried out. However, when studies on the phenomenon of savings are examined, it is seen that mainstream economics dominates and individuals are considered as rational people. In this study, in four chapters in total, the phenomenon of savings is examined from the perspective of behavioral economics, which states that individuals are affected by the society they live in, in other words, there are emotional, cognitive and social effects on the behavior of individuals. The concept of savings is one of the issues that world economies focus on in order to achieve economic growth and development. From Türkiye's perspective, high consumption tendency and low saving tendency attracted attention. The low savings problem, which has been dominant for many years, has brought with it serious economic problems. Behavioral economics, which aims to explain the psychologically based approaches underlying the individual's changing consumption and savings behavior over time, shows the individual's decision-making stages with many explanatory concepts. In this thesis study; The historical development process of the concept of behavioral economics, the perspective of behavioral economics on the concepts of savings and consumption were examined, and consumption and savings trends were analyzed with the information given.
