Structure in Dede Korkut's Tales

Universal transformations manifested in literary texts require the analysis of a journey from a philosophical perspective. Dede Korkut's tales hold a significant place among the narration-based literary types. While presenting Turkish nation in its general sense, Dede Korkut's Tales presents human and human life in its universal sense through a symbolic language. Dede Korkut's Tales is a masterpiece reflecting Turkish family structure, family life, customs and traditions as parts of folkloric values, treating human as central and expressing the common perceptions in Turkish culture. With values of collective consciousness woven in, this work has a profundity and structure shedding light on society and human history. Dede Korkut's tale, in this respect, could be classified among such literary types as myth, epic, tale and legend created by the collective consciousness as a product of collective memory of the society. This study entitled "The Structure in Dede Korkut's Tales" consists of two main sections: fictional structural elements of the tales and their fictionalizations were analysed using various methods including structural analysis being in the first place. "Introduction" provides general information about Dede Korkut's Tales. Part 1 presents information about "the period of the work and its significance in terms of Turkish history" and "various copies/versions/editions of Dede Korkut's Tales", "Dede Korkut: Oguz's wise person and absolute-knower" . Part 2 entitled "Structure in Dede Korkut's Tales" analyses the plot, point of view, characterization, time and space.
