Abstract (EN)

In this study, first, the definition of the concept of gossip, functions and some of the concepts which are related to gossip, have been researched. Also, gossip is studied in the context of sexualty. In the historical process, in general, gossip is considered to be women?s action. However, such an action is not only women?s action but also it is men?s action. Therefore, the tought that gossip which is defined as the conversation about the person that was not there, is a behavior that is specific to women is wrong. Gossip, which is a kind of informal communication, has very harmful aspect of human cominication. however, by providing socialization, solidarity and sharing among in dividuals, it can be accepted useful and necessary.Today, the gossip, can be spread easily because of the media and communication tools. Both in traditional and developed countries, gossip can be seem, as an important type of communication and theoretically it can be used as the positive and negative. Among the population in general, its considered as a badthing but it shouldn?t be forgetten that can have posıtıve sıdes.Using a literature survey and in-depth interviews, in this study gossip, as a type of social cominication, is discussed in the context of women's identity and beside it?s negative functions its positive functions are also focused. Furthermore, gossip is studied both theoretically and pratically. Key Words: Gossip, Rumour, Enformal Relation, Women
