A research on changing face of the street facades (Talimhane example)

The key words of this study are the concepts of ?urban space?, ?street?, ?facade? and ?changing function due to tourism in the historical area?. The concepts of ?urban space?, ?street? and ?facade? are defined in conceptual and theoretical terms. In order to build upon the locational system and exemplify the theoretical and conceptual basis, Talimhane is selected as the key study.Talimhane in which Early Republican buildings are placed has a special pattern that differs from its surrounding. Talimhane is selected as the sample area due to its historical period, a variety of forms on the facades, changes of the building?s function and being a tourism space.The purpose of this study, which is put together by scanning various local and foreign sources about ?urban space?, ?street? and ?facade? and in conceptual and theoretical terms, is to produce datas for maintaining spaces transformed due to tourism and has building heritage.The changes on the facade are analysed in two scales of ?urban? and ?street-building-facade? in the historical zone Talimhane. Every scale is studied with the perceptual, formal and functional parameters.The problem, importance and content of this thesis are defined in the introduction part. The effect of conceptual and theoretical terms in urban space is analysed on facades in the second part. The key study that analyses the parameters of street facades in the third part is based on the conceptual and theoretical terms of the second part. As a conclusion, the analyses of Talimhane showed that the changes of the street facades are effected by the whole scales from urban to building.The authenticity of historical facades and new building?s characteristics which resemble the historical ones, is important for a tourist who visits Talimhane. The tourism models that are applied on the historical areas like Talimhane should save the area?s authentic parameters, have architectural researchs on variety of scales from urban to building considering this thesis parameters.Key words: Urban space, street , facade, change of function due to tourism in the historical area.
