Abstract (EN)
SUMMARYThe aim of this study was to examine the frequency of Helicobacter pylori in patients with reactive thrombocytosis, which is seen in iron deficiency anemia (IDA). Thirty patients with reactive thrombocytosis due to IDA and 30 patients with IDA but not having reactive thrombocytosis were included in this study. Diagnosis of IDA was made by both hemoglobin value <12 g / dl in women (<13 g / dl in men) and by serum ferritin <15 mg / L. Reactive thrombocytosis was considered to exist as the platelet count higher than 400 000 micro / L in complete blood count. H. pylori positivity was determined by urea breath test. H. pylori positivity was in 20 (66.7%) patients of the study group and 22 (73.3%) patients in the control group, respectively, however the results were not statistically significant (p = 0.573). In our study, H. pylori has no effect on the pathophysiology of reactive thrombocytosis which is seen in IDA patients. In addition, large-scale studies are needed to come to conclusive decision.Key words: Iron deficiency anemia, Helicobacter pylori, reactive thrombocytosis
