Abstract (EN)

?Induction sintering? method was developed as an alternative method to traditional furnace sintering in order to sinter iron ? based powder metal particules. Samples consisting of iron, weighing %3 wt. copper+iron and %3 wt. bronze+iron powder were sintered with the induction equipments which are 5kW powered 25 kHz frequency and 12 kW powered 30 kHz frequency. The effects of the shape and size of the induction coil, sintering temperature and time, pre-sintering, sintering and cooling parameters on induction sintering was examined both theorically and experimentally.3 point bending resistance values of iron-based powder metal particules, achieved at 1120?C in 30 minutes sintering time by traditional sintering methods were achieved in 8.33 minutes (500 seconds) at the same temperature using induction sintering. Sintering 10x10 mm square samples by transmitting them at a constant moving speed through 8 mm-diametered copper tubed, 32 mm inner sized, square induction coils was determined as the most convenient way to achieve homogeneous sintering and surface quality. In an induction sintering modelling made using the ANSYS program, the effects of magnetic flux and temperature distribution, fragment and coil size, and coil-cut were also examined. Pre-sintering time could also be determined using this modelling. It is enough to have a volume at the size of a coil which is wrapped suitably matching the fragment size in induction sintering process. By this method, only the fragment which will be sintered gets heated as opposed to the traditional sintering methods which require the entire oven equipment to be heated.
