Nigde in Democrat Party period (1950-1960)

In Turkish political history, the years between 1950-1960 have taken their place as the DP years. In this study, the developments experienced in Nigde between 1950-1960 are discussed. These developments are categorized and analyzed under administrative, demographic, political, economic, social and cultural headings. In the administrative field, the historical background and administrative structure of the center and districts, as well as the current administrators and their activities were investigated. In the demographic field, the population of Nigde before 1950 is briefly examined, while the population of Nigde between 1950-1960 is examined comprehensively. In the political field, the organizational activities of the parties in Nigde between 1950-1960 were investigated, but the limited access to resources on this subject was one of the problems affecting our study. General and local elections held between 1950-1960 and the results of these elections were examined in detail. Then, the visits of prominent political and other figures to Nigde between 1950 and 1960 were examined and the reflection of the May 27, 1960 Coup on Nigde was evaluated. In the economic field, agriculture and animal husbandry, trade and industry, tourism, banks, cooperatives and companies, other economic institutions, mines and transportation are examined. In the social field, daily judicial and social events, national holidays and special days celebrated in Nigde during the DP period, as well as health services are discussed. In the field of culture, first of all, DP-era education policies and studies are analyzed. Then, education and schools in Nigde during the DP period are discussed. Subsequently, developments in the fields of press and broadcasting, cultural organizations, aid organizations, associations and unions, sports, cinema and music are discussed. In all these studies, archival documents, especially archival documents, Provincial Yearbooks, TURKSTAT Data, Master's and Doctoral Thesis Studies on the subject, local press archive related to the period, copyright and research works such as papers, articles and books on the subject were taken as basis.
