Abstract (EN)
In this study, the effects of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and tarantula cubensis extract (Theranechron) on tendon healing were investigated in New Zealand rabbits with experimentally induced common calcaneal tendon rupture. The material of the study consisted of 42 New Zealand rabbits. The rabbits were divided into three groups: PRP, Theranechron, and control, and within each group, they were further divided into two subgroups, followed for 3 and 7 weeks postoperatively. When the macroscopic evaluation of tendon healing was performed after tenorrhaphy, no significant difference was observed in the mean values between the control and Theranechron groups at 3 and 7 weeks (p > 0.05), whereas a significant difference was observed in the PRP group (p < 0.01). In the histopathological evaluation, although statistically significant differences were observed among the groups, there was no significant difference between the groups in terms of cell alignment, cell nucleus morphology, transition from the defective area to normal tissue, vascularity in the defect area, and inflammation parameters in the 3 and 7 weeks of healing. In conclusion, Theranechron showed a positive effect at 3 weeks but had a negative healing process even compared to the control group at 7 weeks. On the other hand, PRP, despite increasing the severity of the lesions at 3 weeks, had a much more successful healing process at 7 weeks, and it can be said that PRP significantly contributes to the long-term tendon healing process.
