Abstract (EN)

Trading volume of the ports is increasing every passing day. Therefore ports are growing with new structures. Sometimes, new structures of ports are constructed on sedimentary soil of gulfs. In generally, characteristics of sedimentary soil in gulfs are poor for construction. Sometimes sedimentary soils of gulf are dredged for the new generation of large container ships. In general, properties of dredged sedimentary soils need to be improved before use in any purpose. The purpose of this work is to investigate a possible use of lime and cement for the stabilization of sedimentary soil in İzmir Gulf. Initially, the geotechnical properties of the untreated soil were determined. Then the soil was mixed with lime, cement and sedimentary soils of gulf at 2.5%, 5%, 7.5%, 10%, 15% and 20% by dry weight of soil. The physical preperties of the treated samples were determined. The untreated soil values were used as control points for comparison purposes. For this purpose, proctor, hydrometer, sieve analysis, unconfined compression test and liquid and plastic limit tests were performed on the specimens. End of the test program, optimum lime content was determined as 10% and optimum cement content was determined as 10%. Unconfined compressive strength of sedimentary soil are increased with lime and cement contents.
