Abstract (EN)
This study aims to examine the practices of mental health professionals working in earthquake regions towards disadvantaged groups. Natural disasters such as earthquakes can lead to an increase in post-traumatic stress disorder, depression and other mental health problems. For this reason, disadvantaged groups such as women, children, elderly and disabled people living in earthquake zones may especially face such difficulties. In the study, qualitative research method was used to understand the practices of mental health professionals towards disadvantaged groups in earthquake regions. Data obtained by qualitative research method; It was collected using a semi-structured interview form that includes the professionals' experiences, difficulties and successes. Interviews were conducted with 25 mental health professionals providing services in the disaster area, both in the field and within the institution, using semi-structured interview forms. The results show that mental health professionals working in earthquake zones can adopt different approaches and practices for each disadvantaged group. Approaches for disadvantaged groups include individual therapy, group therapy, psychoeducation and social support services. In addition, it shows that the challenges faced by each mental health professional have similar as well as different aspects. It also appears that their ability to cope with the difficulties they encounter varies. The findings of this study will make a significant contribution to how psychosocial support and mental health services should be developed in earthquake regions, what should be taken into consideration when providing these services, what should be the approach in applications for disadvantaged groups, and how more effective and efficient support should be provided to disadvantaged groups. . Key Words: Mental Health Professionals, Disadvantaged Groups, Psychosocial Support, Earthquake.
