Abstract (EN)

Earthquakes vary among the biggest disasters that affect the humanity adversely since the birth of the earth, and cause serious damages in our country as well. Humankind has tried to develop precautions to protect themselves from these serious disasters. Scientific developments have devised methods to solve these problems.Ground examinations constitute a very important aspect of scientific research. In many studies, that investigate buildings? responses to earthquakes, ground connections of buildings are considered to be totally rigid. Consequently, the ground?s effects on the behaviours of buildings are neglected. However, during an earthquake buildings and their grounds move in different ways. In this study, the ground structure of Sakarya is investigated as the latest earthquakes in Turkey caused the greatest damage in this city. This investigation has been done by drawing a model for three storey buildings with basement and without basement alternatively. Afterwards, the reactions of buildings with basements and without basements to earthquakes of the same magnitudes have been compared according to this modelling. For this purpose ground layer models with different characteristics have been drawn. Moreover, by using LUSAS (FEM) software, nonlinear dynamic structure analyses of these models have been made bi-dimensionally with time-definition method. At the end of the analysis, the acceleration and displacement outcomes of different models have been compared.
