Abstract (EN)

Purpose: Examine and evaluate the peritraumatic and posttraumatic conditions of earthquake victims after the February 6 Maraş earthquakes, which caused heavy destruction in 11 provinces, namely Kahramanmaraş, Hatay, Malatya, Adıyaman, Adana, Osmaniye, Elazığ, Şanlıurfa, Kilis, Gaziantep and Diyarbakır. Materials and Methods: In the study, mixed method and simultaneous design were used, in which quantitative and qualitative data were presented together. In the quantitative dimension of the research; peritraumatic stress inventory and post-earthquake trauma level determination scale were used. Correlation analysis, regression analysis and hypothesis tests were used in the study. The study group of the research consists of 229 Physical Education and Sports teachers who experienced the February 6 earthquakes in Malatya. In the qualitative dimension; A semi-structured interview form was used as a phenomenological pattern and measurement tool. Descriptive analysis and content analysis were used in the study. The working group consists of 20 people selected according to certain criteria. Results: In quantitative dimension; It was observed that the scores obtained on both scales were perfectly compatible with the sub-dimensions of the scales and that the peritraumatic stress scale perfectly predicted the scale for determining the level of post-earthquake trauma. Significant differences were observed in the stress and trauma levels of earthquake victims according to gender, loss, home damage and place of residence variables, but no significant differences were observed in terms of age variable. In the qualitative dimension; It has been observed that earthquake victims experience negative emotional states and physical difficulties. It was determined that these problems continued after the earthquake. Conclusion: In Turkey, where the reality of earthquakes must be lived with, great losses and destruction are frequently experienced due to this disaster. Earthquake victims experience psychological and physical problems. As a result of the study, it was seen that the earthquake had peritraumatic and posttraumatic effects on Physical Education and Sports Teachers and that they differed according to demographic characteristics and that they experienced negative emotional states and physical difficulties.
