Investigation of the relationship of the number of depression attacks with executive functions, treatment compliance, stress and personality

In this study, it was aimed to investigate the relationship between number of depression attacks, the severty of deppression, perceived stress, anxiety, mood, personality, adherence to treatment and executive functions in Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) patients. The sample of the research is consist of 35 women and 6 men, who applied to the psychiatry outpatient clinic of Dr. Lutfi Kirdar City Hospital and diagnosed with MDD. Participants are between the ages of 30-45, high school graduates and 20 of them are MDD patients with first attack and 21 with recurrent attacks. In the study 10 measurement tools were used, incloding Wisconsin Card Sorting Test, Stroop Test TBAG Form, Wechsler Memory Scale–III-Letter-Number Sequence Subtest, Iowa Gambling Test, Beck Depression Inventory, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, Perceived Stress Scale, Morisky Treatment Compliance Scale, Positive and Negative Affect Scale, Temperament and Personality Inventory-Revised Form. In the analysis of the data, descriptive statistics, Pearson Correlation Analysis, Independent Sample t-Test and Moderation Analysis, Structural Equation Model were used. The results showed that there are differences in executive functions according to the number of attacks in MDD, and working memory capacity plays moderator and mediator role here.
