Abstract (EN)
This study was conducted to examine the relationship between childhood traumas and self- compassion in patients with depression. The sample of the study consisted of 150 patients with a diagnosis of depression who applied to the psychiatry outpatient clinic in Gaziantep City Şehitkamil State Hospital and Dr.Ersin Arslan Training and Research Hospital for outpatient treatment. "Personal Data Form" (PDF), "Beck Depression Inventory" (BDI), "Self-Compassion Scale" (SCS) and "Childhood Trauma Inventory" (CTI) were used as data collection tools. Data were collected by face-to-face interview technique. In the analysis of the data, independent student t-test, Oneway Anova test, Mann Whitney U, Kruskal Wallis, Tukey test from Post Hoc tests, Tamhane's T2 tests, Pearson correlation test, logistic regression model were used. In this study, 36,7% of the patients diagnosed with depression were in the 26-35 age group, 66% were female, 65,3% were married, 29% were high school graduates, and 54,7% were unemployed. Scale total scores of the patients; BDI was 32,3±11,5, CTI was 48,2±16,9, Self-compassion was 59,5±16,7. In the correlation analysis, although a moderately significant positive correlation was found between the BDI and CTI total mean scores, no statistically significant correlation was found between the BDI and SCS total mean scores, and between the CTI and SCS total mean scores. The increase in the traumatic experiences of the patients in their childhood was associated with the increase in the level of depression. Despite the negative effects of depressive symptoms and childhood traumatic experiences affecting the lives of patients, it is recommended to support initiatives to keep the quality of life at a welfare level by effectively increasing the level of self-compassion. However, it is recommended to plan and implement interventions to prevent early traumatic experiences.
