Abstract (EN)

With the rapid increase in population and urbanization, the demand for large-scale construction projects has significantly risen in recent years. However, this trend has also led to a reduction in the availability of suitable construction sites. Consequently, structures are increasingly being built on soils with inadequate geotechnical properties. In such problematic soils—characterized by low bearing capacity, high settlement potential, and susceptibility to liquefaction—the implementation of ground improvement techniques has become essential to ensure structural safety. The selection of an appropriate ground improvement method must be based on a comprehensive evaluation of both soil and structural characteristics. Among various improvement techniques, the Deep Soil Mixing (DSM) method has gained widespread acceptance in many countries due to its effectiveness in improving deep, weak soils. In this study, various numerical analyses were carried out within the scope of the DSM method, which is used for the improvement of soils with liquefaction potential. Different deep mixing column configurations were considered in the analyses; parameters such as column diameter, column spacing, and the Arias intensity of different earthquakes used in the analyses were examined in terms of their effects on post-liquefaction soil performance. Based on the obtained findings, the behavior of deep mixing columns in liquefiable soils and the relationship between column diameter, column spacing, and the Arias intensity of different earthquakes were evaluated in detail.
