Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is investigating the effect of study skills instruction to the success of students and continuity of knowledge for the units ?Success Stories: A Living Scientist?, ?Personality Types: Identifying Strengths and Weaknesses? and ?Language Learning: A Good Language Learner? of English(Foreign Language) course in primary school for second grade 8th class.Working group was consisting of forty students between 13-15 years old of class 8-A and 8-B of 2009-2010 education-instruction year in Sabri Akın Primary School from Arnavutköy district, İstanbul. Those groups were chosen randomly.The differences between courses taught by study skills instruction and traditional methods were determined with respect to academic success of students and having continuity on learning. By looking over literature review and researches about the subject of study skills instruction and according to t-test was determined enhancing success of students and providing continuity on learning.The study was configured as suitable to experimental model because of intending to determine cause-result connection for the effect of lessons which were performed by study skills instruction and traditional education methods to academic success of student and retention level of student in the course of English by using controlled(checking) observation.Data used in the study were gathered via ?pre-test, post-test and retention test which was improved by researcher. Prepared tests were applied to the students before and after the experiment. Obtained data were tested by anova, ancova, t-test and descriptive statistics with SPSS packet program at .01 level.
