ABSTRACT PhD THESIS DETERMINATION OF WEATHER »ATA FOR TURKEY FOR HEATING AND COOLING SYSTEMS HÜSAMETTİN BULUT DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING INSTITUTE OF NATURAL AND APPLIED SCIENCES UNIVERSITY OF ÇUKUROVA Supervisor : Prof. Dr. Tuncay YILMAZ Year: 2001, Pages: 176 Jury : Prof. Dr. Salih KIRKGÖZ : Prof. Dr. Beşir ŞAHİN : Prof. Dr. Ertugrul BALTACIO?LU : Assoc. Prof. Dr. Orhan BÜ YUKALAC A Load calculations in HVAC applications and energy analysis in buildings primarily depend on weather data. This thesis presents detailed weather data for heating and cooling systems for Turkey. The heating degree-days at 14, 16, 18, 20, and 22 °C base temperatures and cooling degree-days at 18, 20 22, 24, 26 and 28 °C base temperature were determined for 78 weather stations of Turkey by using long- term, recently measured data. The bin data for dry-bulb temperature from -36 °C to 45 °C with 3 °C increments were calculated in six daily 4-h shifts for 78 provinces of Turkey. New outdoor design conditions were developed both for cooling and heating systems for all provinces of Turkey according to the format recommended by American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). The current outdoor heating and cooling design conditions were analyzed according to their frequency level based on the database available. Daily maximum and minimum dry-bulb temperature, daily mean humidity ratio, and hourly dry-bulb temperature were modeled with trigonometric equations using the long-term meteorological data for 78 locations of Turkey. Monthly average dry-bulb temperature, wet-bulb temperature and humidity ratio for provinces of Turkey were presented and analyzed. Monthly average outdoor temperatures presented in TS825 for calculation of thermal insulation in buildings were examined. Keywords: Degree-day, bin method, energy analysis, outdoor design conditions, weather data for Turkey.
