Digital banking and the analysis of it's current situation in Turkey

Abstract (EN)

Developments and innovations in information technologies have affected not only all sectors but also the banking sector. Thus, in addition to significant gains in terms of processing speed, costs have also been significantly reduced. Banks aiming to bring customer satisfaction to the top in an increasingly competitive environment, banks have diversified in digital banking services and entered into a way to produce solutions that will enable their customers to receive banking services in the fastest way possible. Looking at world countries in terms of online banking and mobile banking usage, it is seen that branch banking has left its place to online and mobile banking. In China, more than half of the banking services use mobile banking. Similarly, in terms of online banking, more than half of the service areas in Germany and Japan prefer online banking. The number of customers who actively use online banking in Turkey has reached 18.672.000 as of September, 2016. Especially, the preferences for online banking for money transfers and payments are increasing every year. The number of people using mobile banking services has been calculated as 16.613.000 people as of September 2016. This study aims to reveal the existing situation of digital banking in the world and in Turkey which is a very important service distribution channel in the banking sector.
