Abstract (EN)

When the child is considered as a social being, it is difficult to perceive him as a social being by not considering what kind of gain he has made to the society and what he receives from the society. Primarily, the child learns and realizes the culture and religious beliefs of the society to which he belongs from his family and his environment. Then, he transfers what he has learned to future generations by developing them and thus continues. This is so important for us to understand what the child's place is in our lives. Although many definitions of the child have been made, it is very difficult for Sociology to define him in itself. The child cannot be considered independent of society. He completes a family, becomes a carrier of cultural values, maintains the descent of a nation, and can also be considered as a religious symbol. The child can change some structures and intellection in society. The building block of the society is the family and the smallest part of it is the child. Therefore, trying to understand society sociologically passes through understanding the child correctly. In this study, the aim is to investigate the place and value of the child in the society from the history of children and childhood to the present and to examine whether the society provides continuity in the religious-cultural approach to children. In this context, we examined what the concept of child means in today's society by making a comparison between old and new, and the similarities and differences between Osmaniye and Duisburg. However, by examining the concept of child and childhood in the Middle Age, we found that childhood could not show its existence in this period and that the concept of child emerged with the Industrial Revolution and the invention of printing press. In the modern period, many studies have been carried out on behalf of children and the existence of children has come to the forefront. Their education, health, clothing, games have started to be given importance in all aspects. Even laws have been enacted on behalf of children. Nonetheless, we investigated the place and value of child in religious terms in the Ottoman period. While the West considers children to be a sinful entity, under the influence of Islamic religion Muslims call them clean, pure and sinless. Thus, the religion of society affects the approach towards children. According to the data obtained during our research, the child is complementary to the family and brings responsibility awareness to the societies and families to which they belong, as well as putting the sense of motherhood to the woman and throwing back the role of spouse. Nonetheless, the child is an important carrier of value in Turkish culture. They are the only children who will ensure the continuity of a nation, culture and lifestyle. Society has become aware of it in time. Consequently, new and qualified child-based studies are carried out in Sociology. In this study, we evaluated in the field of Sociology of Religion. Key Words: Child, Childhood, Traditional Turkish Culture Traditional Turkish Society, Modernization
