The sea image in divan poetry and its use in teaching poetry

Abstract (EN)

This study, in general, reveals the use of sea image in poems written by poets selected from Divan literature and how it can be benefited in teaching poetry.In order to understand the sea image in Divan poetry, first it is necessary to identify the function of image in poetry. For this purpose, the sea image, which is an important image in Divan poetry, should be taken into consideration. The sea image in examples selected from divans written in different centuries is analysed in order to comprehend the role of sea image in Divan poetry and to use it in teaching poetry. The terms related to sea and marine in the examples are classified separately.Due to the general structure of Divan literature, the sea image is used in similar meanings in some poems while it has been the subject of different dreams depending on the expressive power of its poet. Therefore, similar uses of sea image are classified and the couplets are interpreted. By these characteristics of sea image, the convenience it will provide in teaching poetry are indicated.The results of the study are obtained by the review of the whole information given above.
