Diyabetes mellituslu bireylerde insülin enjeksiyonu uygulama özelliklerinin belirlenmesi

Aim: The aim of this study was to assess the knowledge, attitudes and behaviors related to insulin administration in individuals with diabetes mellitus. Methodology: The study was conducted in Dhi_Qar Specialized Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolism Center. It is descriptive and cross-sectional study. Data were collected from October 24, 2021- to March 10, 2022. The sample of the study consisted of 200 diabetes mellitus patients who were followed up with the diagnosis of diabetes mellitus and administered insulin with any insulin injection technique. The data were collected with the "Individual Identification Form", which includes sociodemographic characteristics and diabetes-related features, and the "Insulin Injection Application Form", which includes insulin injection applications. To collect data, questionnaires and face-to-face interviews were used. Data were analyzed with SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) for Windows 25.0. Results: Most of the participants were between the ages of 20-60 (59.0%). The majority were women (72.5%) and resided in the city of Dhi_Qar. (99.5%). 30% consisted of patients with Type 1 and 70% Type 2 diabetes mellitus. 41.5% of the participants had been using insulin for more than five years. 35.5% of them were making insulin 3-4 times a day. 59% were self-injecting insulin. When the insulin injection applications of the patients were examined, it was determined that there were wrong applications. Conclusion: In this study, it was determined that individuals with diabetes mellitus included in the sample had faulty practices in their knowledge, attitude and behavior of insulin injection application. Incorrect applications in insulin injection applications adversely affect blood glucose levels and therefore diabetes control in individuals with diabetes mellitus Recommendation: All individuals diagnosed with diabetes mellitus should receive education and counseling for diabetes to improve insulin injection technique, blood glucose control and diabetes management.
