Abstract (EN)

Furan is an organic compound that is a contaminant in many foods and can be transmitted to people through diet. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of furan and lycopene on diabetic rat ovaries. For this reason, furan, lycopene and furan + lycopene were applied to diabetic female rats via gavage for 28 days. Changes in histological structure, malondialdehyde level and oxidative stress parameters such as superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase and glutathion-S-transferase were determined in the ovary tissue of all groups. A statistically significant changes in antioxidant enzyme activities, malondialdehyde levels and histological structure were found in diabetic furan treated groups. Lycopene was found to have a beneficial effect against the diabetic and furan applied groups used according to the experimental parameters. Lycopene reduced these changes in furan + lycopene treated groups, although some histopathological changes were observed in the ovaries of the diabetic and diabetic furan treated groups. In addition, changes in oxidative stress parameters support these findings. As a result, lycopene has a protective effect on ovaries and significantly altered diabetes and furan-induced toxicity in the rat ovary. Key words: Furan, Ovarium, Lycopene, Oxidative stress
