Abstract (EN)

This study aimed to examine the pedagogical usability of the interface of the A1-level English language learning platform Diyalekt during the2023–2024 academic years. Ten English language teachers and five researchers working at Pamukkale University involved the study. The research was conducted using a holistic single-case design, which is one of the case study methods. A checklist and semi-structured interview forms, developed with the help of researchers and field experts, were used as data collection tools. In the first part of the study, participants were given the checklists and asked to review the Diyalekt learning platform at their convenience. Afterwards, interviews were conducted either online or face-to-face, depending on participants' preferences. The research data consists of the results of a 49-item checklist and semi-structured interview questions' answers. The qualitative data obtained from semi-structured interviews were examined using thematic analysis methods. The responses to the checklist items were presented in terms of percentage distributions based on descriptive statistics. According to the participants, the interface of the Diyalekt English language learning platform is easy to understand; however, it was emphasized that explanatory guidance should be provided for first-time users. Additionally, it was suggested that gamification elements should be integrated into the interface to enhance user motivation. Upon reviewing the content, it was found that activities addressing different language skills are included, yet the feedback provided for these activities is mostly mechanical in the form of 'right'/ 'wrong' responses. In terms of productive skills, such as speaking and writing, it was observed that there is no effective feedback system in place. Furthermore, it was determined that the activities on the site are primarily designed to support the learning of language structures. As a result of the study, it was concluded that Diyalekt learning platform needs improvement in areas such as interactivity, learner diversity, placement, and assessment for evaluation purposes.
