Abstract (EN)
Poverty is the lack of sufficient income to meet all or most of the daily basic needs. Poverty and poverty criteria may differ both from country to country and from society to society. The effects of poverty differ both from country to country and from society to another. The existence of patriarchal social structure and gender inequality in Turkey results in women being more vulnerable to poverty than men. Women feel and struggle with poverty more dominantly than men. Women's poverty contains different factors that concern women, such as domestic violence, early marriages, divorce, household inequalities, lack of education, cultural factors, race and work, as well as examining how poverty has become a women's problem. In order to conduct research on women's poverty, 110 women were determined as a sample group. A field study was planned in Diyarbakır and a questionnaire was applied to women. The data obtained as a result of the study was analyzed. It has been tried to explain women's perspectives on poverty, how they are affected and ways to fight against poverty by investigating and evaluating many factors related to the social environment and living spaces of women. This study, which we have done in order to understand and analyze women's poverty, aims to analyze women's poverty from a sociological perspective and to contribute, albeit limited, to the studies to be conducted on women's poverty and to policies to combat poverty. According to the findings obtained as a result of the field research, it is seen that women do not only experience income-oriented poverty. Poor women's rights such as education, working life and making decisions freely are also restricted. Women's economic independence is hindered by the patriarchal social structure. It has not been found that there is sufficient development to raise the living standards of poor women. Keywords: Women's Poverty, Diyarbakir, Poverty, Women
