Abstract (EN)

The new-rich class rising with the economic boom recently shows itself with a spatial and cultural differentiation. Diclekent and Metropol district, newly established residences, draw attention with places such as luxury houses, residences, gated communities, restaurants and cafes that address to rich people. The objective of this research is to set light to the socio-cultural world of the rich people that try to disclose themselves with conspicuous consumption and depict an integral picture of the spatial manifestation of the new richness. Focusing on the social and spatial reflections of the new-richness in Diyarbakır, this research bases on the field research conducted in the district of Diclekent and Metropol in Diyarbakır. In-depth interview has been conducted with 51 people in total for the field research. The research tries to set light to the world of the rich people by finding out organic links of the wealth with the consumption and how wealth forms the daily life and space and the relationship between the rich and the space. The new-rich people expressing themselves with consumption have been described as the nouveau-riche as a specific type of person. Economical and socio-cultural change in the city of Diyarbakır has influence on the shaping of the urban space and socio-cultural life. The economical enrichment emerges a new rich class; and the new-rich constitutes a richness culture of their own with the effect of the local dynamics.
