Abstract (EN)

The purpose of the study is to investigate the effects of supervised (by a physiotherapist) land based and aquatic exercises on pain, quality of life, physical performance, and kinesiophobia in patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA) . 70 subjects with knee OA recruited for this study. Cases matching the criteria were randomised into aquatic exercises (n=35) and land based exercises group (n=35). Exercise interventions were conducted two times a week for 6 weeks. Both groups performed the same exercises with the same physiotherapist. Pain, quality of life, functional status of knee, physical performance, and fear of movement of the cases were evaluated with visual analog scale (vas), SF-36 quality of life questionnaire, Knee injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS), Short Physical Performance Battery, and Tampa kinesiophobia scale respectively. The gain parameters of the patients were assessed with the same physiotherapist before treatment and at sixth and twelfth weeks after treatment The mean age of participants'ages in the land-based and aquatic exercise group was 72,51± 7,24 and 69,03±3,88years old, body weight was 74,5±12,6 kg and 78,9±14 kg , BMI was 27,7± 3,4 kg/m² and 28±3,8 kg/m². No significant difference in the participants' demografic information (except age), pain, quality of life, functional status, physical performance and kinesophobia (p>0.05). Access to either aquatic group and land-based exercise group can decrease in pain, provide quality of life, funtional status, physical performance and decrease in kinesophobia but in aquatic group superior than land-based exercise group (p<0,05). Land based exercise and aquatic exercise both of them is benefit decrease in pain and kinesophobia, development of quality of life, and functional status, physical performance. But the aquatic group were significantly better than those for land-based group (p<0,05). Key Words: Aquatic exercise, Osteoarthritis, Kinesophobia, Land-Based Exercise
