Abstract (EN)

In this study, it is aimed to examine the students' views on the subject of symmetry and the errors they made during the symmetry drawing. Forty three students who are in seventh grade is attendent this survey in 2014-2015 academic term in Yalova which have different success level of two secondary school. For gathering information, the researcher asks an open ended question about symmetry and symmetry axis without any drawing activity. Also researcher again asks twenty two drawing question about line symmetry. These tests are asked the students before the class like pre test and after the class like end test. Qualitative research design was adopted in the study because the errors of the students were examined. And also document review method is used too. The findings show that the factors which effect the students while drawing line symmetry have huge roles. The study found that the students had difficulty in obtaining symmetry with oblique lines, but also showed that the complexity of the shape was an effective factor in itself, rather than the variability of the symmetry line. The questions which students draw symmetry other side of the symmetry axis are the most difficult ones, because students cannot imagine that symmetric images are at the both sides of the symmetric axis. The results also show that mostly used examples during the education process can limit the students in some situations.
