Abstract (EN)

Transportation is the process of moving people or loads from one location to another. Nowadays roads provide 95 percent of all modes of transportation. However, the increasing number of vehicles on the road each year, as well as the increasing intensity of traffic, are causing problems, particularly in large city centers. Failure to build a sustainable traffic network and long wait times has negative psychological, economic, and environmental consequences. To reduce these drawbacks, urban transportation travel times must be reduced as much as possible. The efficient operation of intersections is critical at this point. Modern roundabouts are more useful than signalized roundabouts in terms of many performance criteria, according to studies dealing with at-grade intersections. It is worth noting, however, that every roundabout connection is geometrically sound, and the intersections under consideration are in urban areas with limited access to heavy and long vehicles. As a result, it is necessary to investigate the effects of transforming an active intersection used by various types of vehicles under various intersection scenarios. In this study, Durmazlar signalized roundabout, located in the province of Bursa, was reconstructed as three different intersection types. The PTV Vissim simulation application was used to model the roundabout and collect data from the results. The data acquired from the present situation simulation program and the scenarios produced were compared. The data gathered for the new scenarios and the current situation were compared in terms of queue length, vehicle travel time, and speed metrics. For various conditions, the best at-grade intersection recommendations were offered.
