Gyroscopes and gyrostabilizers

Gyroscopes with their 200 years development are used in many systems. They are begun to used in navigation at first then at aviation. From the beginning of 20th century they are used to stabilize roll movement of ships. Today they are still used both in navy and merchant ships. Applications of control theory on gyroscopes rise in recent years. In this thesis working principle and dynamic structure of gyro-stabilizers are studied. Then non-linear model of four degree freedom gyro is linearized. After that full-order observer is designed for the linearized gyro model. Estimated state gains and system state are compared. In this thesis we also studied on, one of the most important problem of control theory, pole assignment problem for a helicopter model. In pole assignment problem we studied on five algorithms different from well-known Ackerman and Bass-Gura formula. We used five different algorithms for CH-47 Helicopter model and compared the solutions we had. We also give a template of numerical algorithms for eigenvalue assignment problem. Results we had from the algorithms for CH-47 Helicopter model are compared. After comparison the most efficient algorithm is proposed. In observer design MATLAB program and for application of pole assignment methods Mathematica program is used.
