Determination of parent education needs for mothers who have four to six years of age children

IVSUMMARYThe aim of this study is to determine the subjects of which the parents are inneed; to use them for the progress of the training programs oriented to the parentsand, to provide help to the parents in the subject of bringing up their children in thedirection of their needs. Determination of the needs of parents, in addition tofacilitating the preparation of these kind of programs, will also help to increase thenumber of the programs and overlapping of the program contents with parents?needs.In this study the adequacy levels of parents in bringing up a child; especiallythe subjects in which they need training; whether the subjects parents choose fortraining are the same or not; the distribution of the subjects of which parents are inneed in respect of their fields, are determined.Sample, has been selected through the random sample method from thecentral districts of Ankara. In the sample, there are 246 mothers, NeedsDetermination Interview Form for Family Training, which has been developed byFulya Bergman in 1990 in Boğaziçi University, is applied as data collectinginstrument. Data, distribution shown in numbers and percentages, and averages areshown in tables, and the differences between parent?s age, education level,workingsituatia and theirchild?s age and sexneeds are analyzed through Chi-squaremethod.As a result of the analyses carried out, it has been determined that there is notan significant difference between a mother of age, working and education level inbringing up a child. But ,there is an significant different betwen children?s number ina family and the needs of parent.It has been determined that the participants of the study find themselves mostinadequate in the subject of ?Behavior Orientation?, whereas they find themselvesmost adequate in the subject of ?the Importance of Games and Toys?.In this study oriented to family training, regarding the needs of parents,?Intellectual Development? takes the first rank. It is succeeded in order by thesubjects of ?General Personality Development?, and ?Intra-Family Communication?.Key words; parent education, mother education, need for education,
