Memory conformity in the DRM lists: Evaluation of the recognition memory with 2afc test and remember/know paradigm

Within the scope of the thesis study, three experiments were performed in which the DRM lists studied at learning stage were answered by the forced choice method during the testing stage and made remember/know evaluation about the responses. In the second and third experiments, the other one's response information was also shared with some of the pairs of words appearing in the test phase in order to examine the effects of memory conformity. It was aimed to examine the effects of who this person was (the comparison of the internal / external group member in the second experiment) or the accuracy rate of the response (the ratio of true / false information ranging from the second and third experiment) to the responses of the participants. In this way, it is aimed to examine the effects of memory conformity in false memories observed with DRM lists. In three experiments, with the help of remember / know responses we had chance to evaluate memory conformity and false memory effects on recognition memory. In the first experiment which had no other one's response, it was seen that the critical words of DRM lists were more erroneously remembered than other types of words. In the second and third experiments to which the other person response was added, the other person's responses in the unrelated words influenced the correct response rates. In three experiments, the most remember response was made for critical words after both correct and incorrect responses. The other person's wrong answer made in critical words has led to a decrease in remember assessment. Most know responses was made for unrelated words in which the most affected from other person's response for correct proportions. These results have shown that unrelated words seen to have a weaker memory strength so open to be affected by the other person's response, and that the other person's wrong responses reduced the memory strength of the critical words in which people have the most strength.
