Abstract (EN)

The most important factor that has helped expressionism that has had an impact in the 20th century come to our day is that it has emerged as a form of expression, not a trend. Although expressionism, one of the modern art trends, can be divided into three periods if we consider its path in the 20th century, it can be spread out through all ages as the practice of self expression of individuals, and therefore artists. Considering expression is a quality inherent to the 20th century, its changes/transformation in parallel with the changes and developments of the modern world and its handling as a reactionary trend would be normal. Emerging conditions and reasons are constantly changing, as reaction is a permanent reality. Contrary to impressionism that is a creation of the buorgois period in which eyes don?t talk but watch, hears the question but don?t reply, tongue-tied; expressionism breaks the ties that bind humanity?s mouth. It is a reaction against civilization that turn humans into simple tools, making them soulless and devoid of feelings by making them serve machines. It is the cause to win back the humanity that has been serving machination and order. We see quite a few new trends emerging in the following years after expressionism, but expressionism has renewed its technique, expression, subject and contents and has acquired currency. The first narrative, figurist expression of the 1910?s has been replaced by Abstract Expressionists in the 1930?s and they have preserved their impact on the art market until 1960?s. New developments came to the art scene after those years; exhibiting ready-made objects, installations, performances, pop-art and similar vanguard art of the Modern era have been replaced by transavangarad of the Postmodern era that has been supported by Benito in Italy, and Neo-Expressionism taking over the legacy of Beuys and lead by German Kiefer and Baselitz. So, it would be better to consider expressionism as a form of expression rather than a trend.
