Examination of injury and the association between injury and injury anxiety among male pentathletes participated in world military pentathlon championship

The aim of this study was to examine and describe Sport Injury and Sport Injury Anxiety associated with injury among Military Pentathletes and help future studies about this subject.The experiment group used in this study were 70 male pentathletes who participated in 2009 Military Pentathlon World Championship.Demographic questions were asked to examine age, weight and height variables of athletes.Pentathlon experience and performance levels were examined with via five items.Sport Injury Appraisal Scale(SIAS) developed by Cassidy was used in this study. Data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences(SPSS), version 16.Results of this study implies that military pentathletes should always be ready for the risk of injury of lower body parts and especially overuse injuries must be taken care of by pentathletes.Pentathletes should especially be careful for injuries in periods 1-3 months before the main competition of the year.Also it was found that `?anxiety of losing athletic potential?? has the highest anxiety level among pentathletes. Anxiety of reinjury is another important anxiety subscale for pentathletes. The fact that injury anxiety in military pentathlon is related with injury severity and number of previous injuries is another important result of this study.Key Words: Military pentathlon, sport injury, anxiety, sport injury anxiety.
