Abstract (EN)

This study aims to analyze the models of professional football clubs with successful youth development systems worldwide and provide a comparative analysis of the current academies of football clubs in Turkey. The research addresses the reasons behind the insufficient production of professional players from youth academies in Turkish football, evaluates existing practices, and proposes recommendations for a sustainable youth development model. Accordingly, the youth systems of Turkish and international football clubs are comprehensively examined in terms of sports management, educational approaches, facility development, talent identification methods, and club management philosophy. The research was conducted using qualitative methods, with data collected through in-depth interviews, focus groups, and document analysis. Thematic coding analysis was employed to identify the core dynamics shaping successful youth development systems. The sample includes successful youth football academies in FIFA-affiliated UEFA and CONMEBOL regions, as well as youth development programs of Turkish Süper Lig clubs. Purposeful and convenience sampling techniques were utilized to select accessible and relevant stakeholders aligned with the study's objectives. Findings indicate that governance structures, Academy investments, the quality of educational programs, and talent development strategies are critical determinants of success in youth academies. It was found that Turkish football clubs need to strengthen their governance and organizational structures, establish systematic talent identification processes, and allocate more resources to youth development. The strategies employed by internationally successful clubs provide valuable examples that can be adapted to the Turkish context. In conclusion, the study offers concrete recommendations for improving Turkish football's youth academies and aims to guide the establishment of a sustainable development model. These recommendations emphasize the importance of enhancing the quality of youth education, securing institutional support, allocating sufficient resources, and prioritizing strategic planning. The study seeks to contribute to making Turkish football more competitive on a global scale.
